Bajaj Finance reported strong year-on-year profit growth for the September quarter of FY27, supported by higher interest income and expansion in its lending business.
The company’s consolidated profit after tax increased approximately 29% to ₹6,367 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹4,948 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Its assets under management, or AUM, increased 26% to approximately ₹5.85 lakh crore as of September 30, 2026.
The results have placed Bajaj Finance under the spotlight among investors tracking India’s non-banking financial companies.
What do the latest numbers show?
Bajaj Finance’s consolidated net interest income increased approximately 24% year-on-year to ₹13,335 crore.
Net total income rose 23% to ₹15,974 crore.
AUM growth indicates that the company expanded the total value of loans and financial assets it manages. The lender added ₹37,680 crore to AUM during the quarter and booked 13.45 million new loans, according to reported results.
The company also reported a customer franchise of approximately 128.85 million as of September 30, 2026.
Why is AUM important?
Assets under management are an important measure for lenders because they indicate the scale of their lending operations.
A growing loan book can support interest income, but growth also needs to be evaluated alongside credit quality.
If borrowers struggle to repay loans, a lender may face higher defaults and provisions. Therefore, investors should not examine loan growth without considering asset quality.
Bajaj Finance reported a gross non-performing asset ratio of 1.06% and a net NPA ratio of 0.42% at the end of September 2026, compared with 1.24% and 0.60%, respectively, a year earlier.
What is driving the lending business?
Consumer finance, small-business lending, housing finance and gold loans are among the areas supporting the company’s expansion.
The gold-loan portfolio also increased significantly, reaching approximately ₹24,195 crore, according to reporting on the company’s quarterly performance.
A growing customer base can create opportunities for cross-selling financial products. However, the quality of new borrowers and repayment behaviour remain important.
What should investors examine?
Investors tracking Bajaj Finance share price should look beyond quarterly profit growth.
Important indicators include:
- AUM growth and the quality of the loan portfolio.
- Net interest margins and cost of funds.
- Gross and net non-performing assets.
- Loan losses and provisions.
- Capital adequacy and funding requirements.
- Valuation compared with earnings and growth prospects.
The company’s quarterly earnings are one part of the investment picture. Share prices also reflect expectations, competition, interest rates and broader market sentiment.
What are the risks?
Lending businesses are sensitive to economic conditions.
Higher borrowing costs, weak consumer demand, unemployment or rising defaults can affect repayment capacity.
Rapid expansion also requires strong risk controls and sufficient capital.
Investors should read the company’s exchange filings and investor presentation rather than relying only on headlines about profit growth.
The bigger picture
Bajaj Finance’s Q2 FY27 results show continued expansion in lending and profitability.
However, sustained performance will depend on maintaining asset quality, managing funding costs and balancing growth with responsible lending.
