Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a transmission project worth around ₹4,700 crore in Maharashtra, giving the company’s infrastructure business another major order at a time when India is expanding its renewable energy network.
The project will help evacuate renewable power generated in Karnataka to major consumption centres in Maharashtra. It will also support pumped storage projects with a combined capacity of up to 4,500 MW across Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
AESL won the project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process after emerging as the lowest bidder. The project will be housed under a special purpose vehicle called Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is scheduled to be completed within 36 months.
The project is officially called the Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara, up to 4,500 MW, Part A. Its main purpose is to strengthen the transmission network needed to move electricity from renewable energy generation areas to major centres where power is consumed.
The project will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio. Once completed, the company’s cumulative transmission network will rise to 29,739 circuit kilometres, while its total transformation capacity will reach 143,425 MVA.
The planned infrastructure includes a new 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line between Kolhapur and Satara, and an expansion of the existing Kolhapur pooling station. These facilities are expected to improve the movement of electricity across the southern and western parts of the country.
The project is also linked to India’s wider renewable energy expansion. The country has set a target of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030. Building transmission infrastructure is important because new solar, wind and storage projects need reliable connections to the national grid.
Pumped storage is becoming increasingly important as India adds more renewable energy. Solar and wind generation can change depending on weather and time of day. Pumped storage can help store energy and provide electricity when demand is high, making it useful for maintaining grid stability.
For AESL, the project adds another large asset to its growing transmission portfolio. The company said the new transmission backbone will support both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment.
The announcement also attracted attention from investors. AESL shares rose during trading on August 26 following news of the project. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹1,637.75 on the BSE, according to The Economic Times.
The company has also reported strong recent financial growth. Its consolidated net profit increased 124.22% year on year to ₹1,149.06 crore in Q1 FY27, while revenue rose 42.41% to ₹9,711.08 crore, according to Business Standard.
For investors, the latest order highlights the growing role of transmission companies in India’s clean-energy transition. As renewable generation expands, large transmission projects could become increasingly important for connecting new power sources with industrial and urban demand centres.
