Strong quarterly earnings from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) lifted investor sentiment on July 10, driving Indian benchmark indices higher and pushing the Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex to fresh multi-week highs. The rally was led by information technology stocks after TCS reported better-than-expected revenue, reinforcing optimism about a gradual recovery in global technology spending.
The Nifty 50 gained around 1%, while the Sensex also advanced by about 1% during the session. The Nifty IT index outperformed the broader market as investors responded positively to TCS’s quarterly performance, supported by stronger demand from banking clients and the benefits of a weaker rupee. Analysts believe the results have improved confidence ahead of the earnings season for other major IT companies.
Market sentiment also improved due to easing concerns over global geopolitical tensions and softer crude oil prices compared with earlier in the week. Positive global cues and continued buying by foreign institutional investors further supported the rally across most sectors.
Apart from IT, broader market participation remained healthy, with gains across large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap stocks. However, a few healthcare stocks witnessed selling pressure following company-specific developments, highlighting that investors continue to remain selective during the earnings season.
Analysts expect corporate earnings to remain the primary driver of market direction over the coming weeks. Results from banking, financial services and other technology companies will be closely watched for indications of business growth and profitability. Investors will also monitor global economic developments, crude oil prices and foreign investment flows for further market cues.
Despite short-term volatility, market experts believe India’s long-term fundamentals remain strong, supported by steady domestic demand, improving corporate performance and continued participation from both domestic and foreign investors.
