BSE Index Services has introduced a set of new indices based on the BSE SmallCap 500, aiming to offer investors additional benchmarks that track specific investment factors within the smallcap segment.
The exchange has launched four factor based indices: Quality 50, Momentum 50, Low Volatility 50 and Enhanced Value 50. These indices are designed to track the performance of companies within the BSE SmallCap 500 universe that exhibit particular characteristics such as strong financial quality, price momentum, lower volatility or value orientation.
According to BSE, the initiative is intended to provide investors, asset managers and market participants with broader tools to analyse and track the smallcap space using factor based investment strategies.
Factor indices have increasingly gained traction among institutional investors and fund houses, particularly for the development of passive investment products such as exchange traded funds and index funds.
The introduction of these indices is also seen as part of the broader effort by exchanges to deepen market benchmarks and provide more granular indicators of performance across segments of the equity market.
