In its monthly portfolio update for January 2026, the Quant Small Cap Fund, the flagship small-cap equity scheme of Quant Mutual Fund, executed a notable repositioning of its investments. According to the scheme’s latest factsheet, the fund completely sold its stake in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) along with three other stocks, and brought Gillette India Ltd into its portfolio for the first time. These moves reflect a shift in stock selection and risk positioning by the fund management team.
In detail, the fund sold all of its 4.99 shares of ONGC and liquidated its positions in Vardhman Textiles (8.65 lakh shares), India Shelter Fin Corporation (8.15 lakh shares) and Sumitomo Chemical India (2.01 lakh shares) during January. These exits were part of a broader rebalancing after periodic review of stock valuations and growth prospects.
On the addition side, the scheme acquired 15,998 shares of Gillette India Ltd, with the new holding valued at approximately Rs 1,407 crore. This marks a strategic inclusion of a consumer-oriented business into the portfolio.
Beyond these headline changes, the fund increased exposure in five select small-cap names. The largest increase was in Best Agrolife, with the fund adding almost 70 lakh shares. Other increases included IRB Infrastructure Developers (30.19 lakh shares), Poly Medicure (9 lakh shares), Marathon Nextgen Realty (1.33 lakh shares) and Black Box (23,422 shares).
The fund also trimmed holdings in five stocks, including Anand Rathi Wealth, BASF India, Bikaji Foods International, Minda Corporation and Oriental Hotels. Meanwhile, positions in 83 stocks remained unchanged, featuring names such as Adani Green Energy, Adani Power, Bata India, Castrol India, EID Parry (India), Gland Pharma, HDFC Life Insurance, Jio Financial Services, NBCC, Piramal Finance, RBL Bank, Reliance Industries Ltd and Zydus Wellness.
As of January 31, 2026, the Quant Small Cap Fund held 94 stocks, slightly down from 97 in December, and reported assets under management of Rs 27,384 crore.
This repositioning highlights the fund’s active approach to adapting portfolio composition in response to valuation shifts and emerging opportunities in the small-cap segment.
